Peace & Calm
It is when water stands that it becomes pellucid, and reveals the pebbly beach below. Be still, and know that God is within thee and around! In the hush of the soul the unseen becomes visible, and the eternal real. The eye dazzled by the sun cannot detect the beauties of its pavilion till it has had time to rid itself of the glare.
When the soul keeps no burdens but hands them to the blessed Lord, the peace of God will fill the inner temple, while within the soul keeps an unbroken Sabbath.
Put the sun in its central throne, and all the motions of the planets assume a beautiful order. Put Jesus on the throne of the life, and all things fall into harmony and peace. Seek first the kingdom of God, and all things are yours. Consecration is the indispensable condition of blessedness.
Seek feeling and you will miss it; be content to live without it, and you will have all you require. If you are always noticing your heart-beats, you will bring on heart-disease. If you are ever muffling against cold, you will become very subject to chills. If you are perpetually thinking about your health, you will induce disease.
That calm, unmurmuring, unreviling patience, which made the Lamb of God dumb before His shearers, is ours.
Care will break the rest of the soul as much as sin does.
The one cure for burden-bearing is to cast all burdens on the Lord.
