As a mother’s love covers her children and delights in them and has the tenderest compassion with their foibles or failures, so there ought to be in the heart of every believer a motherly love toward every brother and sister in Christ.
Time spent in prayer will yield more than that given to work. Prayer alone gives work its worth and success.
Nothing but love can expel and conquer our selfishness.
It is impossible for man to do it. And then alongside that is the thought--What is impossible with man is possible with God.
As the branch thirsts for continued sap, so the believer thirsts for more of the Spirit.
God is what He is through His Spirit; the Spirit is the very life of God.
Our prayers must not be a vague appeal to His mercy, an indefinite cry for blessing, but the distinct expression of definite need.
Our God delights to help us.
Love is a fire that will burn through every difficulty.
The great test of whether the holiness we profess to seek or to attain, is truth and life, will be whether it be manifest in the increasing humility it produces.
Obedience is the path to holiness, because it is the path to union with God’s holy will.
It is when we sink down in utter helplessness that the everlasting God will reveal Himself in His power.
God has a plan for His Church upon earth. But alas! we too often make our plan, and we think that we know what ought to be done.
What is done in the will of God must have the mighty blessing of God.
God cannot do it.
Take time to be alone with Christ. Nothing in Heaven or earth can free you from the necessity for that, if you are to be happy and holy Christians.
The blessing of such persevering prayer is unspeakable.
Each believing prayer brings a step nearer the final victory.
The whole of Christianity is a work of God’s omnipotence.
It is only Christ who opens the way and teaches the worship in spirit.
