It is not sin, but grace, that will make me indeed know myself a sinner, and make the sinner’s place of deepest self-abasement the place I never leave.

Faith excludes all boasting. The hand which receives charity does not say, ‘I am to be thanked for accepting the gift’; that would be absurd.
When our eyes are opened by the influences of divine grace, we then shall begin to think of ourselves as we ought to think.
