Jesus was God answering the tug of man’s need on His heart-strings.
“Or if he asks for a fish, who will give him a serpent?”
Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?
There are curtains to be drawn by in Christ, that we never saw, and new foldings of love in Him. I despair that ever I shall win to the far end of that love, there are so many plies in it.
Jesus was God on a wooing errand to the earth.
Devotion is simply a spiritual activity and liveliness by means of which Divine Love works in us, and causes us to work briskly and lovingly.
The Holy Spirit is the first of the Father’s gifts, and the one He delights most to bestow.
We must prefer God before ourselves, and endeavor to will our own happiness for his glory.
The difference between love and devotion is just that which exists between fire and flame.
Moment by moment I’m kept in His love; moment by moment I’ve life from above.
