Strength & Perseverance
True Christianity is a fight.
His wind shaketh no corn.
Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
This fire is the work of grace that is wrought in the heart; he that casts water upon it, to extinguish and put it out, is the devil.
The very moment we desert our post, the enemy rushes in.
Jesus is the victor. Satan knows it, and fears Him.
He yields only when he must. Therefore the prayer must be persistent. He continually renews his attacks, therefore the ground taken must be held against him in the Victor’s name.
For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world: your faith.
For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
He must fight the flesh. Even after conversion he carries within him a nature prone to evil, and a heart weak and unstable as water. That heart will never be free from imperfection in this world, and it is a miserable delusion to expect it.
The world, the flesh and the devil are too much for any man.
The Christian life is a conflict and a warfare, and the quicker we find it out the better.
In Christ Jesus you shall have the strength you stand in need of, the devil shall have no power; therefore fear not, for in the name of the Lord we shall overcome all our spiritual Amalekites.
Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

No duty can be performed without wrestling. The Christian needs his sword as much as his trowel.
The Enemy strives to make us languid in doing good by depression, but when he sees that we do not cease our efforts to work, and that those efforts become all the more earnest by reason of their being made in resistance to him, he leaves off troubling us.
The enemy yields only what he must. He yields only what is taken. Therefore the ground must be taken step by step. Prayer must be definite.
All discouragement is from the devil, and I wish every Christian would just take this as a pocket-piece, and never forget it.
No cross, no crown! No conflict, no saving Christianity!
