Theme: Doubt
A great many Christians are slaves to the habit of doubting.
All faith that turns towards Jesus is the right faith. It may bring no conscience rapture. It may be as weak as the woman’s touch on His garment’s hem.
Unbelief, then, is the belief of a lie and the rejection of the truth.
In all unbelief there are these two things, - a good opinion of one’s self, and a bad opinion of God. So long as these two things exist, it is impossible for an inquirer to find rest.
Doubts are all from the devil, and are always untrue. And the only way to meet them is by a direct and emphatic denial.
A jealous and holy distrust of self may give rise to the question even in the believer’s heart, but the continuance of such a doubt would be an evil indeed.
God’s invariable rule is faith first and feeling second, in everything.
Why then do we calculate our forces, and consult with flesh and blood to our grievous wounding?
