Quote · Faith & Trust

Blessed are they who can deny themselves, and put Christ in the room of themselves.

Quote · Guidance & Wisdom

Wherefore abandon all these ways of flattering yourselves; no longer follow the devil’s bait; and let nothing encourage you to go on in sin; but immediately and henceforth seek God with all your heart, and soul, and strength.

Quote · Strength & Perseverance

When one attempts to sanctify himself by effort, he is trying to make his boat go by pushing against the mast. He is like a drowning man trying to lift himself out of the water by pulling at the hair of his own head.

Scripture · Guidance & Wisdom

Therefore prepare your minds for action. Be sober, and set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ—

Scripture · Strength & Perseverance

For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.

Scripture · Guidance & Wisdom

Even a fool, when he keeps silent, is counted wise. When he shuts his lips, he is thought to be discerning.

Quote · Guidance & Wisdom

The Self is God’s making—only it must be the ‘slave of Christ,’ that the Son may make it also the free son of the same Father; it must receive all from him—not as from nowhere; as well as the deeper soul, it must follow him, not its own desires.

Quote · Strength & Perseverance

It is just because there is so much of that self-life in us that the power of God cannot work in us as mightily as God is willing that it should work.

Quote · Guidance & Wisdom

Many a time I wish that I had held my peace, and had not gone amongst men.

Quote · Guidance & Wisdom

The greatest burden we have to carry in life is self. The most difficult thing we have to manage is self.

Quote · Guidance & Wisdom

Every step you take out of an angry and wrathful heart, and out of a sour, sullen, and morose heart, and into a meek and peace-making heart; out of envy and uneasiness, and into admiration and honour: on the spot your heavenly Father will acknowledge and will reward you.

Quote · Strength & Perseverance

For I said with myself, ‘Be it done now, be it done now.’

Quote · Peace & Calm

Nothing so stills the elephant when enraged as the sight of a lamb; nor does anything break the force of a cannon ball so well as wool.

Scripture · Strength & Perseverance

Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

Scripture · Guidance & Wisdom

Better is the end of a thing than its beginning. The patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit. Don’t be hasty in your spirit to be angry, for anger rests in the bosom of fools.

Quote · Guidance & Wisdom

Meekness is necessary for people in power; a man that is passionate is dangerous.

Scripture · Guidance & Wisdom

For we all stumble in many things. Anyone who doesn’t stumble in word is a perfect person, able to bridle the whole body also. Indeed, we put bits into the horses’ mouths so that they may obey us, and we guide their whole body. Behold, the ships also, though they are so big and are driven by fierce winds, are yet guided by a very small rudder, wherever the pilot desires.

Quote · Guidance & Wisdom

My days of sloth have ruinously destroyed all that I had achieved in times of zealous industry.

Scripture · Peace & Calm

A wrathful man stirs up contention, but one who is slow to anger appeases strife.

Quote · Guidance & Wisdom

Many people fall into the error of being angry because they have been angry, vexed because they have given way to vexation, thus keeping up a chronic state of irritation, which adds to the evil of what is past.
